6.8 earthquake rocks Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kolkata and North East of India.

A very strong earthquake of 6.8 magnitude rocks at 6:12 pm Sikkim on 18-September 2011, Darjeeling, Kolkata and North East of India. The epic center of the earthquake was only 60 km from the state capital city of Gangtok.  Almost all the telecommunication to the area like Sikkim, Darjeeling is disrupted because of the earthquake. Several cracks in the walls has been reported in the affected area of the earthquake. It has been also reported that the service of the electricity also disrupted of the Darjeeling and other affected cities. It has been  known that Darjeeling being a residential school zone parents of the school from every part of India are worried about the safety of their children. As per the television reports there is no reports of accident of any body except one girl met accident in Sikkim.

  1. It's really very sad that at least 13 people died in different places of Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar. As Sikkim is very close to Nepal and it's capital city Kathmandu, it has been reported that 9 people died because of the earthquake yesterday. The rescue operation in the affected areas has been started but there were difficulties in order to reach the affected areas because of Landslides and heavy rains. hundreds of tourists are trapped in the area because of road blocks due to land slides & cracks in the roads.
